Apply to the MPS Program

An application for admission to the MPS program consists of the online CollegeNet application (link provided below), all official transcripts, official results of the Graduate Record Examination, official results of TOEFL or IELTS scores (for International Students), and three letters of recommendation. International Students must also complete the Financial Responsibility Form (provided below).

The application deadline for the Fall 2017 semester is June 1st, 2017. Applications will be accepted from November 1st, 2016 through June 1st, 2017. However, please note that applications will not be evaluated until December 1st, and evaluations will continue on a rolling basis through June 1st, 2017. Undergraduate scholastic performance, previous work experience, Graduate Record Examination scores, and the letters of recommendation are all considered in evaluating an applicant.

 

Application Instructions

    Application Deadlines: 
    Fall admission application deadline: July 1st  (Applications will be accepted starting November 1. )
    Spring admission application deadline: November 15th (Applications will be accepted starting June 30.)

    Application: The application is available online and must be filled out completely using the link above.
    Personal Statement: Please make sure you address previous, relevant field, lab, and work experience in your personal statement, as well as your track of interest and how you envision the MPS program contributing to your professional career and goals.
    Transcripts: All applicants must request official transcripts be mailed or e-mailed directly from the relevant academic institution(s) (Office of the Registrar) to our office (MPS Office).  Our mailing address is: RSMAS, MPS Office – S/A 132, 4600 Rickenbacker Causeway, Miami, FL 33149, and our e-mail address is: mps@rsmas.miami.edu. You must request a transcript from all academic institutions from which credits were awarded, including all study abroad and community colleges. Your file will not be complete, and thus cannot be evaluated, until we receive these documents.

    Please be advised that transcripts will only be accepted if they are sent to us directly from the institution. Transcripts sent by you or issued to you (even if they are in a sealed envelope) are not considered official and will not be accepted.
    Transcripts in a language other than English should be provided in that language but must be accompanied by a certified English translation. For all International applicants: In addition to official transcripts, RSMAS now requires a certified copy of the diploma in both the official language of your country and in English.

    Students from China must request their official transcripts and diplomas (in English and Chinese) be sent directly to us by China Academic Degrees and the Graduate Education Development Center (CDGDC) ( http://cqv.chinadegrees.cn/ )

    Students from India must submit a copy of their diploma and request mark-sheets, indicating all subjects taken and marks obtained for all years of university study, issued by the university responsible for conducting the examinations (excluding the Indian Institute of Technology).

    Letters of Recommendation: Three letters of recommendation are required for admissions consideration. Each applicant must request letters of recommendation from three (3) different references using the guidelines provided in the online application. Applications from CollegeNet may be submitted without letters of recommendation. However, an applicant’s file will not be reviewed by Track Leaders until all required admissions materials (including letters of recommendation) have been received by the MPS Office. Upon completion of the application, your references should receive an e-mail from CollegeNet, requesting the online submission of the required documentation (questionnaire + letter of recommendation).

    Academic references are ideal and highly preferred, but we will accept letters from employers and/or supervisors. Please do not request letters from friends, family, ministers, or coaches. If your references have trouble using the online submission portal, they may e-mail their letters (signed and on letterhead) to the MPS Associate Director, Dr. Joshua Coco:jcoco@miami.edu. We cannot accept letters that are not signed or that are sent directly by students.
    GRE: We must receive your official Graduate Record Examination Test (GRE - http://www.ets.org/gre) scores directly from ETS. Please use institution code 7690 (department code) when submitting your request with ETS.  We require a minimum, combined (verbal + quantitative) score of 297 to be considered for our program.

    Application Fee: There is a non-refundable application fee of $65.00. The University does not have a fee waiver policy unless you are a full-time UM employee (with benefits). When submitting the application online, you will be required to make a payment via a credit card or a checking account debit transaction.

    TOEFL/IELTS (International Students ONLY): International applicants whose native language is not English must submit the official results of the Test of English as a foreign language (TOEFL - http://www.ets.org/toefl/) or the International English Language Testing System (IELTS - http://www.ielts.org/).
    The exception to this rule is the international student earning a degree, or who has completed a substantial amount of coursework, at a North American University. A minimum score of 550 (paper-based test), 213 (computer-based test), 80 (iBT), or 6.5 for the IELTS is required for admission. Please use institution code 2919 (no department code). This institution code is for the TOEFL only; please note that the GRE institution code is different (see above)
    International Students who attended college/university outside of the United States: All graduate applicants who have attended a college or university outside the United States (except applicants to Law* and Nursing**) must submit official transcripts and diplomas (if available) from all colleges and universities attended to one of the three approved evaluation services listed below. Follow the specific instructions of the selected evaluation service to request a course-by-course evaluation with degree equivalency and grade point average (gpa) calculation.
    The evaluation report and copy of all the official documents used in the evaluation must be sent directly from one of the three approved evaluation services to the respective graduate department. For graduate departments addresses please visit here. The evaluation report and supporting documents are required before the Admissions Committee can review the application.
    Any documents received by the University will become the property of the University and will not be returned to the applicant or sent to a third party including the evaluation services.

    I20 Requirements (International Students ONLY): International applicants should be aware that we will need a copy of your passport if accepted at RSMAS. This is required by the International Admissions office in order to process the I20. Therefore, on the application, please type in your name as it appears on your passport.

    Undergraduate Requirements/Considerations: In order to be considered for our program, applicants must have a minimum, cumulative GPA of 3.0. The prerequisites for the each department vary (see Program Requirements). Please make sure you possess the required undergraduate coursework and/or degree before applying.
