Welcome to Master of Professional Science


The Master of Professional Science is an innovative graduate degree at the University of Miami, intended for students who seek advanced training in marine and atmospheric science. As part of this unique program, students will also develop a blend of team-building and communication skills, legal and regulatory knowledge, and business savvy, that are highly valued by potential employers.


This program prepares students for science careers in business, government, or non-profit organizations, where employment demands are growing. The curriculum is structured to allow students to complete their degree in as little as 12 months, with the training and real-world experience necessary to prepare them for entry to mid-level careers in today’s professional job market.



IMPORTANT INFORMATION REGARDING FALL 2020 APPLICATIONS

  • Admissions are proceeding for enrollment in Fall 2020. The deadline to submit applications for Fall admission is July 20, 2020 for US Citizens and Permanent Residents, and June 1, 2020 for International Applicants.

  • The GRE testing requirement for admission into the MPS program has been suspended for Fall 2020 applications.

  • Due to difficulties in taking the GRE, there are now two ways to qualify for the Merit-based Tuition Waiver for Fall 2020.

    Option 1: Combined GPA/GRE Criteria

    The minimum eligibility requirements for a 3-credit tuition waiver is a combined GRE score of 297 (verbal + quantitative only) and GPA of 3.0. The minimum eligibility requirements for a 6-credit waiver is a combined GRE score of 308 (verbal + quantitative only) and GPA of 3.3.

    Option 2: GPA-only Criteria

    The minimum eligibility requirements for a 3-credit tuition waiver based on GPA alone is a GPA of 3.3. The minimum eligibility requirements for a 6-credit waiver based on GPA alone is a GPA of 3.6.

    Students who submit GRE scores will be awarded the higher of the two options. Students who do not submit GRE scores are only eligible for option 2.

THE GRE TESTING REQUIREMENT FOR ADMISSION INTO THE MPS PROGRAM HAS BEEN SUSPENDED FOR FALL 2020 APPLICATIONS DUE TO COVID-19.

DEADLINE TO SUBMIT APPLICATIONS FOR FALL 2020 IS JULY 20, 2020 FOR U.S. CITIZENS AND PERMANENT RESIDENTS, AND JUNE 1, 2020 FOR INTERNATIONAL APPLICANTS. DEADLINE TO SUBMIT APPLICATIONS FOR SPRING 2021 IS DECEMBER 2, 2020 FOR U.S. CITIZENS AND PERMANENT RESIDENTS, AND NOVEMBER 1, 2020 FOR INTERNATIONAL APPLICANTS.
